If you have been following our blog for a while, you might already know how to block games by age rating, how to limit children’s access to specific applications, and how to prevent kids from downloading specific file types using the Parental Control component. These settings are normally used when you have an idea about which type of content you want to filter out when allowing your kids to use the computer, especially the Internet. However, if you have no time to configure filters for each type of content, or if you find it complicated, you can use a simpler strategy. All you will need is to specify the age of your child.

The Parental Control component in Kaspersky Internet Security – Multi-Device allows you to block web content and limit computer usage with the help of profiles that are pre-configured according to age categories. To select a required Parental Control profile:

1. Open the application’s main window and click the Arrow Up button on the green panel then select Parental Control
2. Enter the password (or create one if it has not been set up)
3. Select the user account that your child uses

4. In the Profile section, click the link that says Change profile.

5. Select an appropriate profile:

Downloading of files of all types is blocked
Computer use control is enabled; computer use restrictions are not set
Applications use control is enabled; no restrictions are imposed on computer use

Teenager (12+) is a set of rules to control the user experience of children from 4 to 12 years old:

Internet use allowed
Allowed to access websites from the following categories only: Internet mail, Online stores, Social networks, Payment systems, Forums and chats and Casual games
Control of file downloads from the Internet is enabled, restrictions on file downloads are not set
Computer use control is enabled; computer use restrictions are not set
Applications use control is enabled; no restrictions are imposed on computer use

If you would like to collect statistics on the selected user account without applying any limitations, select Default profile.

Once the preferred profile has been selected, you can adjust its limitations using the Settings links in each section of the profile’s properties (Computer, Applications, Internet, Communication, Content Control). If you modify any settings within a preset profile, its name will change into Custom Restrictions.
